Borough board and commission seats open

The Mat Su Borough has received several applications for various empty seats on local boards and commissions.

Jim Skinner of Caswell Lakes has applied to serve on the Borough’s Parks, Recreation and Trails Board.  He is vying for an at-large seat and is currently the mayor’s recommendation since no other applications have been received.  Talkeetna area resident John Strausenberg has applied for the 2nd at-large seat.

Herman Thompson, past Upper Susitna Seniors president, has put his name in the hat to sit on the Health and Social Services Board for District 7.  He is currently the mayor’s recommended choice.

Kevin Foster is currently the mayor’s recommended choice to fill the seat on the Chase Road Services Board.

Boards and Commissions make decisions that ultimately assist the mayor and Assembly in making decisions on a wide variety of issues.  It is a way for citizens to provide input on important local issues.  There are still a number of Upper Valley seats available:  both the Talkeetna Fire Service and the Caswell Fire Service Area have one seat available, The Talkeetna Sewer and Water Board has 2 seats open, Talkeetna Flood Control Service Area continues to have 2 empty seats and the Talkeetna Library Board also has a seat open.  A person is needed from both Trapper Creek and Talkeetna to fill alternate seats on the medical services board.

Open Board seats are applied for, then the mayor recommends that applicant to the Assembly and ultimately, it is the Borough Assembly that makes the final choice.
