Troopers start ClickIt campaign

Starting Wednesday May 25th , the Alaska State Troopers and other agencies will be out enforcing the seatbelt law in the 2011 Click It or Ticket campaign.

The troopers are calling their campaign the Ripple Effect.  It will run statewide on Alaska television stations and some radio.  The Ripple Effect is targeting those that say if they don’t wear their seatbelt and die, they aren’t hurting anyone else.  Troopers say that besides the fact that they may strike another person’s vehicle in an accident and injure them, their death causes pain to friends and family, like ripples in the water.

The first campaign will focus on an 18 year old boy who died at milepost 252 of the Parks Highway.  He was a passenger in a car that went off the roadway due to icy conditions.  He was not wearing a seatbelt and he was thrown from the car and died.  Residents can expect extra enforcements on the roadways through June 4th.
