Susitna State Forest Must Meet Management Guidelines, Council Says

A Senate Bill that would create a Susitna State Forest passed the Senate Finance Committee [Today / on Tuesday]. The Talkeetna Community Council asked the committee to include language in Senate Bill 159 that would incorporate provisions of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough Asset Management Plan and the designated Natural Resource Management Units.

In a letter to the Senate Finance, the Council stated that they fully support management of public forests, and are against consideration of financial interest at the expense of sensible, sustainable management. Saying that commerce and sustainability can coexist, the Council urged Senator Menard and the Finance Committee to include language in the bill that includes sustainability and good science, and fully protects the Management Plan.
