A local business is holding a contest to see who can come up with the best design for a plane that will be raffled off at next year’s Alaska Airmen’s conference. Above Alaska Aviation was chosen to build next year’s plane, and the proceeds from the raffle will go to the association.
Drew Haag, owner of Above Alaska, says that he and his crew decided to build a plane that has proven very popular in the state.
“We are building them a PA-18 Super Cub. The main reason we chose that airplane to bid is everyone in Alaska wants a Super Cub, and that’s what sells tickets. Every time they have a Super Cub to raffle, they usually sell out on their tickets.”
The plane is still being built, and custom modifications are being installed. Eventually, it will eventually need a paint job. Drew Haag and Above Alaska Aviation have decided to hold a contest and allow the public to submit potential paint schemes for the Super Cub.
“Basically…on our website we have a template that’s a blank silhouette of a Super Cub, top and side view. You can download it, print it off, you can use Photoshop, markers, pencils, whatever, and you design whatever scheme you want on there and email it back to us. We’ll figure out…whose wins.”
Drew Haag says there isn’t a limit on the number of submissions, but they need to be in by the end of this week. The winner will receive a hoodie from Above Alaska Aviation and a raffle ticket to potentially win the airplane itself when it’s raffled next spring.
