On Monday evening, the Alaska State Troopers discovered a vehicle rollover at Mile 89 of the Parks Highway. Troopers say that 55-year-old Theresa Martin of Houston was driving northbound when she lost control of her SUV, resulting in the crash. Martin did not report any serious injuries to the troopers.
This accident is the third in four days around Mile 89 of the Parks. Last Friday, 48-year-old Kimberly Milton’s pickup rolled over while she was traveling northbound in the same area. Milton was treated for minor injuries.
On Saturday, an accident in the same area resulted in three hospitalizations. According to troopers, 38-year-old Shawn Rich of Wasilla was towing a trailer northbound on the highway just after 9:00 am. Troopers say Rich lost control of his truck at Mile 89 and crossed into the southbound lane, where his vehicle collided with one traveling south. That vehicle was driven by 48-year-old James Stevens of Talkeetna. Both Rich and Stevens were taken by ambulance to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. Nels Oie (OY-uh), 39 years of age, was a passenger in Shawn Rich’s vehicle. He was taken to Providence Medical Center in Anchorage by LifeMed helicopter with what troopers describe as serious injuries. Saturday’s accident closed the Parks Highway temporarily while the vehicles and injured persons were cleared from the scene.
