Talkeetna Community Radio recognized longtime members
Pam and Roger Robinson,
Rick and Kathy Ernst, and
Barbara Mercer with volunteer awards at the annual meeting held Sunday at The Grove.
Following is the text of the award presentation:
Besides paying their membership dues and voting for our governing board members year after year, these people exemplify the “community” in community radio. They are members who are also volunteers on whom we rely for extra help throughout the year. Though they don’t have weekly music shows or newscasts, and haven’t been board members (at least not recently!), they’ve consistently supported us by helping us out with more fundraisers than we can remember over the years…always saying “yes” when we call, always finding the time to come in and answer phones, or dredge up the courage to sit behind a microphone and help with on-air pitching, or make generous bids on auction items. Staff members are also grateful for their flexibility and willingness to roll with whatever is going on, realizing that fundraisers come with glitches and unplanned “oopses” of one sort or another.
Stellar Members awards go to:
Pam and Roger Robinson… supporters since we first went on the air. I remember Pam and Roger enthusiastically calling in to on-air auctions and answering phones back when we were broadcasting out of the log cabin studio, and for many fundraisers since. They’ve contributed with live on the air pitching more than a few times, they’ve contributed Decadent Desserts, and helped out where needed with other special events. Pam also enriches our airwaves with the occasional program Seasonal Celebrations. Many thanks to Pam and Roger for their loyal and always cheerful and energetic support, which takes many forms.
Rick and Kathy Ernst have also been members probably since before KTNA went on the air, and have made many trips from their home in Trapper Creek to help out with on-air pitching, phone answering, and as guests on several talk shows. Rick was on the Community Advisory Board, and he helped out with some transmitter maintenance during the early years. They’re regular listeners who share their opinions on programming with us, which I always appreciate. Thank you to Rick and Kathy Ernst for being stellar members.
Barbara Mercer is phone answerer of the decade. Always ready to help, she’s organized, efficient, with a friendly “phone presence”, and she usually helps out for most of an afternoon, bringing a book for the slow spells. We’d like to thank KTNA member and supporter Barbara Mercer for her time and good energy.
The presentation was made by staff member Deborah Brocke.
