Fish and Game raises sockeye bag limit at Larson Creek

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game has raised the bag limit for sockeye salmon on Larson creek to six fish per day, effective Wednesday morning.

On Tuesday, Fish and Game announced that the low end of the sustainable escapement goal for sockeyes has already been surpassed, and current projections show the run coming in stronger than the top end of the goal.

The news comes as sockeye runs in other areas of the state are struggling. Area Management Biologist Sam Ivey says Larson Creek represents a bright spot in this year’s run, and that he is happy to provide an opportunity for anglers to put salmon in their freezers.
