The Mat-Su Borough has released the final list of candidates running for office in October’s election.
Borough voters will choose three assembly members, two school board members, and the mayor this year.
In Assembly District three, incumbent George McKee of Wasilla is running unopposed. In District 6, incumbent Dr. Barbara Doty is being challenged by Jesse Sumner. Both candidates live in Wasilla
District 7, which includes the Northern Susitna Valley, has no incumbent running, since current Assembly Member Randall Kowalke is running for state senate. His seat has drawn three candidates. Tam Boeve and Dennis Dees live in Willow, and Walter Kloepfer lives in Talkeetna.
Borough Mayor Vern Halter of Willow is running to retain his seat for a second term. He is being challenged by Palmer resident Bruce Walden.
There are two areawide ballot questions for this year’s election. One is an advisory vote asking the public if the borough should explore acquiring police powers. The other ballot measure is a road bond package.
The borough election will be held on October 2nd.
