The Mat-Su Borough Assembly approved a resolution allowing temporary free dumping for earthquake debris on Tuesday.
The resolution, which came eleven days after the Magnitude 7.0 earthquake, which occurred on November 30th.
This was the second attempt to pass the resolution. At last week’s emergency meeting, the resolution failed to meet the higher-than normal vote requirement. On Tuesday, the five votes it received were enough to pass the measure. Assembly Members Jesse Sumner and George McKee voted against the resolution at both meetings.
A second resolution passed, which will reimburse the Mat-Su Borough’s solid waste division for lost revenue using emergency funds allocated last week.
The fee waiver also applies to transfer sites, and lasts through Saturday.
