A search and rescue operation is underway in the Willow area for a Kentucky man who did not return from a fly fishing trip.

According to the Alaska State Troopers, a family member reported 76-year-old Bill Hartlage missing on Thursday evening.  At around 11:00 pm on Thursday, two boats and a helicopter were dispatched to search for Hartlage.  No immediate sign of his whereabouts was found. MATSAR Search and Rescue began a ground search on Friday with assistance from Troopers and state park rangers.

Bill Hartlage is six feet, two inches tall, and weighs approximately 160 pounds.  Troopers say he primarily wears a light brown or tan fishing vest and grey hip waders.  He was last seen wearing a brown baseball cap with a yellow and pink fly-fishing lure attached.  He may have also had a large, round hat for sun protection.

Troopers ask that anyone in the area of Willow Creek on Thursday with information regarding Bill Hartlage call 907-745-2131.
