Statewide standardized test results published

The state’s standardized test results are in.  While the Mat-Su Borough School District outperformed the state averages on proficiency, schools in the Northern Susitna Valley had mixed results compared to the statewide averages.

The math and English tests are collectively known as the Performance Evaluation for Alaska’s Schools, or PEAKS.  Across all grades, statewide averages for proficiency in both subjects is below forty percent.  Statewide English proficiency is 39.2 percent, and math proficiency is 35.7 percent.  The Mat-Su Borough School District beat both of those marks by about five percent, but fewer than half of the students tested proficient in either category.

For Su Valley Junior-Senior High School, English proficiency is above both the state and district averages at 46.7 percent.  Su Valley’s math score lags behind the state average, with just one third of students testing as proficient.  Among area elementary schools, Willow came out on top, with more than half of its students testing as proficient in English, and about sixty percent proficient in math.

In the state’s science assessments, the district also outperformed the statewide average.  Su Valley has the highest science proficiency at more than sixty percent.  Willow also had the highest proficiency amongst elementary schools, at about fifty percent.
