Last week, the Su Valley Co-Ed Soccer Program hosted games against Wasilla’s Lady of the Valley school. Middle school coach Jamie Westnedge was pleased with the performance of his team, especially since the team had not been able to fit much practice time before the first game due to the McKinley fire and smoke.  The young Rams tied with a score of 2-2 with an action-packed game in which both teams put pressure on each the opposing goalie.

The Varsity game against Lady of the Valley a victory based on good teamwork by the Rams. Su Valley did not waste any time for their first goal scored by Mikah Wilson in the first seven minutes of the game. The second goal was scored by Dalton Pinard just before half time. Su Valley goalie, Finn Benischek did a good job defending the goal, letting just one goal by him about 30 minutes into the second half. Weston Slatter scored a third goal for the rams, and Daniel Kehoe scored near the end of the match, making the final score 4-1.

The Rams offense had 17 shots on goal compared to their opponent, Lady of the Valley who had 4. One bystander from Lady of the Valley said that they were short of team members this year and had to use 8th graders to help fill the Varsity roster.

The next scheduled home game for the Rams is against Birchwood next Tuesday, September 10th, starting with the Middle School team at 3 pm.

The Susitna Valley Co-Ed Soccer Program encourages any and all soccer fans to come and cheer on their team.
