Annual Crowley Classic Basketball Tournament tips off Thursday

by Chris Hall – KTNA:

Susitna Valley Rams Basketball will face off against a tough slate of competitors from around the state during the 11th Annual Crowley Classic.

The high scoring duo of Daniel Kehoe and Cy Jolley lead a bench of experienced and healthy seniors. An early-season tournament win in Aniak along with a recent win against a tough rival in Glennallen puts the boys’ team in a strong position to play in the championship game on Saturday, according to Athletic Director James Sickler

The girls’ team, after a period of rebuilding, is quickly learning how to win games. Junior Kenna Grenier earned a tournament MVP title in Aniak and leads a team ranked second in the conference. They head into the Crowley Classic with a pair of wins against Glennallen and a strong chance to earn a place in the state championship bracket this year. The girls will look to get even after an earlier conference game loss to the Hooper Bay Warriors.

The Crowley Classic begins at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Rams take to the court at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday against the Klawock Chieftains, followed by games on Friday against the Hooper Bay Warriors. KTNA will also broadcast Saturday’s Su Valley games live.
