This StarDate Susitna was recorded over the phone on Lets Hear from Our DJs aired Thursday, April 23 from 1-2pm. It’s all about the Sun.
This image is for latitude 50 degrees North. Looking primarily at the 2nd number in each pair (the altitude of the Sun at solar noon above due South)… subtract 12 degrees for solar elevation in the Upper Susitna Valley (62°N), and add 30° degrees for Hawaii. On April 25th the Sun is about 41° above due South at solar noon in Talkeetna/Trapper Creek. Image source: http://www.physicalgeography.net/
In the Thursday 4/26 live-over-the-phone StarDate Susitna, Kathleen Fleming spoke about the Sun. This H-R diagram shows our star in the average, long-lived section, lucky for us life-forms. Not included in the show: approx. 85% of all bright stars are part of a multi-star system, which may be a bit too chaotic for a planet to develop life.
