While state and national races take up a lot of airtime and bandwidth as November approaches, there are also a number of community council elections taking place.
On Election Day, in addition to the state ballot, Talkeetna Community Council, Inc. will be choosing new members for its board of directors. Not long ago, the organization was struggling to come up with candidates. That struggle appears to have ended. As of Tuesday, there are five candidates for four open seats. Candidates include Jonathan Korta, Kathy Trump, Doug Smith, Jodi Rodwell, and Patrick McGarry. Some of those candidates have submitted bios, which are posted at its website. Early voting for the Talkeetna council is currently available at the Talkeetna Public Library.
Just up the road from Talkeetna, the Susitna Community Council will hold a board election at its next regular board meeting on November 5th. The Susitna council also has four openings. According to current chair Ned Sparks, candidates include himself, Herman Thompson, and Joe Pride, Bernadine Hall. More information on the Susitna Community Council is available at susitnacc.org.
