Herman Floyd Thompson

Long time Talkeetna, Alaska, resident Herman Floyd Thompson, 84, passed away on Dec. 7, 2020, while at Mat-Su Regional Hospital.
Herman was born in Aberdeen, Wash., on July 19, 1936. He met and married the love of his life Marge on May 2, 1959, at Lowry Air Force Base, Colo.
Herman had a love of knowledge. In 1989, after serving 31 years in the USAF, he went back to school and received his bachelor’s degree in occupational education.
After retirement, Herman became involved in volunteering. He was involved in the design and construction of flower boxes for the Blue Star Marker for the Anchorage Garden Club. In Talkeetna he was involved with the Upper Susitna Senior Center, Sunshine Transit and in helping Upper Susitna Shooters get started. It has been said he gave more than he took.
He is survived by his wife, Marge; and two daughters, Denise (Tommy Weaver), Sheila (Doug Hestes); four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; his sister, Erlene Aspen; and brother, Tom Miller (Suzanne). Herman was preceded in death by his daughter, Eileen.
A celebration of life is planned for next summer when travel restrictions are reduced so family in Lower 48 can participate.
