Despite cold and rainy weather, Susitna Valley athletes finished strong at the State Track and Field meet, held last weekend at Diamond High School in Anchorage.
Maya Mossanen won the women’s high jump competition for 1-2-3-A schools, jumping 5 feet even. Maya has won first place in high jump for three consecutive seasons and currently holds the high jump record at Su Valley.
Thomas MacDonald placed second in the 400 meter dash. He currently holds the record time at Su Valley for that event.

Bryson Jolley took third place in the men’s triple jump and high jump, and India Roderick placed in third in women’s high jump.
Su Valley Relays also finished strong. Both 4 by 100 meter relay teams placed third, and the Su Valley women’s 4 by 200 meter relay took second place, but were disqualified for a faulty handoff.
The last event of the two-day meet was the men’s 4 by 400 meter relay. Despite a long day of challenging weather conditions, the men’s team finished in second place, with a time of 3 minutes, 38 seconds, breaking the Su Valley record by six seconds.
Su Valley men’s team scored enough points to earn them fifth place for the overall meet and the Su Valley women’s team placed eighth.
