The slate of candidates for the Mat-Su Borough’s November election is set, including borough mayor and the assembly district that includes the Northern Susitna Valley.
In the mayoral race, current Borough Mayor Vern Halter is ineligible to run this year, since he has already served two terms. The three people who have registered their candidacies are familiar names to those who follow borough politics. Former Wasilla Mayor Bert Cottle, current Palmer Mayor Edna Devries (duh-VREES), and former Mat-Su Borough Assembly Member Matthew Beck of Palmer are all running to be the next borough mayor.
District 7, which includes the Northern Susitna Valley, is one of three borough assembly seats up for election this year. Incumbent Tam Boeve (BO-vee) of Willow is running for re-election. She will be challenged by Ron Bernier of Wasilla.
The borough assembly seats for Districts 6 and 3 are also up for election this year. In District 6, incumbent Jesse Sumner faces two challengers, Dick Clippard and Kristi Short.
Current District 3 Assembly Member George McKee has termed out and is not running for his seat, but his wife, Dee McKee, is. Also running for the seat are Mark Bailey and F. Jay Kruger.
The borough election will be held on November 2nd.
