Su Valley has strong performance at Houston NYO meet

The Su Valley Native Youth Olympics team had a very strong showing at its most recent meet at Houston High School.

The Rams’ best team performance was in the Eskimo stick pull, with Michael Palmer taking third place, Ethan Bettes placing second, and Jeremy Mangione winning the gold.

Notable individual performances include Samantha Shockey taking third place in the two-foot high kick, Ethan Bettis taking gold in the seal hop, and Hunter Kirby being the only middle school student to reach the finals bracket in the Eskimo stick pull.

The strongest individual performance came from Jose Irias who won gold in the wrist carry, one-hand reach, and Indian stick pull.

Coach Steve Harrison says the team is looking forward to its regional meet on April 16th. The winners and runners-up from that meet will go on to the state competition as part of a combined Mat-Su all-star team.
