The body of a missing kayaker was recovered on Saturday evening after he went missing on Tuesday.
According to Alaska State Troopers, a pilot flying over the area of the Knik River on Saturday spotted what they believed to be a body in the water near Wolf Point. On Saturday evening, the Mat-Su Borough Water Rescue team arrived in the area and were able to locate the body. Alaska State Troopers and the State Medical Examiner’s Office were able to confirm that the remains were those of 46-year-old Brian Lizer.
Lizer was last seen on Tuesday, when his kayak overturned while he was crossing the Knik River. He did not immediately resurface. Troopers conducted aerial searches following Lizer’s disappearance in the river, but were unable to locate him. Search-and-rescue crews were unable to utilize divers or sonar in the initial search due to high water and poor visibility in the river.
After Lizer’s body was recovered, it was transferred to the State Medical Examiner. Next of kin has been notified of his passing.
