The riverbank at the end of Main Street in Downtown Talkeetna is eroding rapidly after high water washed away a significant portion of the revetment.
While water levels are down from their peak approximately a week ago, erosion at the end of Main Street has sped up significantly in recent days. The stone revetment was last repaired in 2020, when it was also extended.
According to Mat-Su Borough Public Affairs Director Stefan Hinman, Public Works Director Tom Adams was in Talkeetna on Thursday to view the rapid erosion first-hand. Hinman says the borough takes the concerns of Talkeetna residents seriously and will share more information as it becomes available.
