First pre-filed bills released in advance of legislative session

The 2024 session of the Alaska Legislature begins next Tuesday. Before the start of the session, members of the House and Senate have the opportunity to pre-file bills.

The first group (pdf link) of pre-filed bills has been released. In total forty-eight bills have been pre-filed, thirty-two in the House and sixteen in the Senate. The bills cover a broad array of topics, including the establishment of a statewide bed tax, establishing a mental health and psychedelic medicine task force, school bond debt reimbursement, and public safety.

Representative Kevin McCabe and Senator Mike Shower represent the Susitna Valley in the legislature. Neither has a bill included in the first batch of advance filings.  Representative McCabe says that if all goes to plan, he will have three bills in the second release, which will take place on Friday.

KTNA’s news department plans to conduct pre-session interviews with both Representative McCabe and Senator Shower before the legislature gavels in on on January 16th.
