StarDate Susitna 2-18-24, by Kathleen Fleming

In this StarDate Susitna, the topics are the Moon’s social schedule, why her path is different up here, and Kathleen did feel brave enough to touch on astrology versus astronomy. A document Kathleen created to provide visual aids for understanding Precession of the Equinoxes, and why the Sun is not “in” the Zodiac constellation of your “sun sign”, is available below. Visual aids to explain the Moon’s 18.6 year cycle are still in the works, they’ll be linked in a future edition of StarDate Susitna.

ALSO, to inquire about the Eclipse Packet for observing the PARTIAL Solar Eclipse (everywhere on the continent except the bulk of Alaska), please email your name and phone number with observer’s city and state to dj@ktna.org, put Eclipse in the subject line, and Kathleen will get back to you.

This image (created with in-the-sky.org online planetarium) shows the Full Moon of Friday 2-23-24 close to Leo’s brightest star Regulus, rising in the East at 7pm. Through the night and until pre-dawn Saturday the Moon will inch away eastward of the star.
