StarDate Susitna 3-24-2024, by Kathleen Fleming

The topics in this StarDate Susitna include: Mercury in the evening, and the truth about Eclipse Seasons. Kathleen Fleming creates StarDate Susitna as a part of the Susitna Writers Voice series.

CORRECTION of an error in the audio: in describing conditions creating an Annular Solar Eclipse, I said that when the moon is further from the sun it is smaller and doesn’t completely cover the sun. I meant to say that when the moon is further from the EARTH, it’s too small to cover the sun. Hope you caught that error. ;-] Kathleen*

Kathleen created this view of this week’s western sky at 9:30 pm using Stellarium, an online interactive sky map. Believe it or not, this is one of our best opportunities to see Mercury. Do not confuse it with much brighter and higher Jupiter.
This is the graphic for the Penumbral Lunar Eclipse the evening of Sunday 3/24, which was completely cloudy. You can learn all about eclipses, lunar and solar, past and future, from EclipseWise.com.
