Mat-Su Borough Planning representatives visited the Trapper Creek Community Council meeting this week to discuss the process for expanding Council boundaries.
Council Chair Jason Kresge says the community is only looking to change the boundaries to let more residents participate in elections and serve on the Council. Kresge says the boundary change has no bearing on taxes nor would it alter Borough voting districts. It also would not have an impact on road paving or other issues.
Borough Planning and Land Use Director Alex Strawn confirmed that changing the Council Boundaries would serve the community by allowing more residents to participate.
Kresge says that the Council will first reach out to residents who might be impacted by the new boundaries. Community support will be important moving forward. Strawn says the Council can then draft a resolution to the Planning Commission with proposed boundary updates. He says the Borough will assist by creating maps that reflect the proposed boundary. They also can help create an updated description for the bylaws.
The boundary discussion is expected to continue as the Council reaches out to Community members directly by mail, through social media, and monthly meetings.
