Su Valley Voice for May 16th, 2024: Raising Healthy, Happy Humans!

In this episode host Trisha Costello explores what we know about early childhood development. She is joined in the studio by guest co-host Kellie Laurson, Talkeetna Campus Manager of Denali Education Center.  The Talkeetna Campus is the location of the scheduled Community Baby Shower being put on by R.O.C.K. Mat Su.

In the first half of the show they hear from Amy Parker, child psychologist with the Matanuska Susitna Borough School District, on the importance of early childhood nurturing. Amy outlines ways families and the community in general can support healthy development. 

In the second half of the show the call-in guest is Colleen Andrews, Project Coordinator with R.O.C.K. Mat Su. She discusses the Community Baby Shower scheduled to happen at Denali Education Center’s Talkeetna Campus as well as other locations throughout the Borough.  She goes on to explain the work being done by R.O.C.K. Mat Su, whose mission is to promote family resilience and reduce child maltreatment. R.O.C.K. Mat Su is an arm of the Mat Su Health Foundation. At the end of the show Amy Parker chimes back in to provide resources for parents who may have questions or needs around supporting their child’s developmental growth.
