This Susitna Writer’s Voice is on the theme of Father’s Day. We have poems from Kathleen Fleming and Sophie Farrington.

In the heart of rugged Alaska, where the wild winds play,
There soars a brave pilot, named David, each day.
Forty four years, he’s known the sky’s vast expanse,
Guiding his plane with a steadfast stance.
Mount McKinley greets him, majestic and grand,
A daily dance of daring, with skilled, steady hands.
Through storms and clear skies, through twilight and dawn,
David’s courage and valor have never withdrawn.
Generous in spirit, with a heart open wide,
He shares his warmth like the Alaskan tide.
Pistachios he loves, a simple delight,
Fueling his flights through the cold, starry night.
Every flight is a testament to his skill and grace,
Braving the elements, he finds his place.
With every ascent, he reaches for the best,
David, the pilot, a cut above the rest.
Through all his journeys, his deep faith grows
A faithful legacy, on and on it flows.
In Christ he trusts, through turbulent air,
Finding peace in prayer, knowing God’s always there.
Here’s to you, Dad, in the sky’s embrace,
Your legacy soaring, in every flight you trace.
A hero of the heavens, with a heart so true,
So proud to be your daughter and have You to look upto.
I love you, Dad! Love, Sophie
