As of 9 am Wednesday, Division of Forestry and Fire Protection officials report that the Montana Creek fire is 48 percent contained.
Fire crews continue to patrol the perimeter of the Montana Creek Fire that started Saturday and burned 172 acres. The fire has been confirmed to be human-caused.
Located at about Mile 95 of the Parks Highway, the fire has so far not impacted traffic or burned any residences, though one outbuilding was lost. The Parks Highway remains open.
Crews have constructed a fire line around the perimeter and continue to put out spot fires within the containment area. There has been a significant reduction in burning, but residents may still see smoke as interior pockets of vegetation burn. More than 100 personnel are still onsite, managed by an Incident Management Team.
Officials confirm that there are no evacuations in the area. They ask drivers to continue to use caution and slow down on the Parks Highway between Miles 94 and 100. Both ground and aviation crews are still working in the area. With the holiday approaching, officials remind residents that fireworks are illegal in the Mat-Su Borough.
