StarDate Susitna 8-18-23, by Kathleen Fleming

In this edition of StarDate Susitna, Part 4 of the Eclipse Experience series, Kathleen Fleming includes the 7 interviewee’s answers to questions #14-16 (2 more left for next week’s wrap-up). AND she tells us what astro-sights to look for now that the wee hours of the morning are dark enough to see the Milky Way.

This is part of a photo Karl Swanson took during Totality. Kathleen has added identification.
Corinne Smith and Paul Button sitting in adirondack chairs watching the Eclipse while visiting family in the Adirondacks! Photo by Corinne’s mom, Mary Ellen Jones.
Karl Swanson took this image that shows the Totally Eclipsed Sun and brilliant Venus to the lower right. He may have captured Jupiter as well if the image included more space above the Sun.
During the partial phase you might see crescents under a leafy tree, rather than the normal dappled light. The leaves act as “pin holes” to reveal the shape of the Sun. Lingering after Totality gives a person more relaxed time to observe such phenomena. Photo by Karl Swanson.
Merry Stinson watches the partial eclipse, wearing a KTNA hoodie, her favorite! Photo by Holly Stinson.

Below is the Star Chart page Kathleen put together for people going into the Path.  During Totality the sky is dark enough to see planets and maybe some bright stars, a real treat!  Kathleen used heavens-above.com to create the charts on this page.  Zoom in to see details.
