Borough Assembly members voted in October to display various historical documents, including the Ten Commandments, Magna Carta, and Bill of Rights in the Mat-Su Borough’s Dorothy Swanda Jones Building. In what is now a traveling exhibit, the documents will be printed on retractable banners that can be moved to schools and libraries.
Proposed by District 7 Assemblymember Ron Bernier, he says the selected documents are meant to show the value of each in developing the nation’s laws. Though the resolution passed, it stipulated that no Borough funds would be spent to develop the exhibit.
As of November 6th, donors contributed $800 for displaying the documents. Borough officials hope to raise a total of $4,000 to cover the exhibit cost.
Community members can contribute donations to the effort through the Borough’s website. Borough Manager Mike Brown says he will provide regular updates on donations received.
