Local, State Election Updates

As of noon, most precincts had reported for the Mat-Su Borough, State, and National races. Voter turnout appears to be significantly higher this year than in 2023. About 42 percent of voters cast ballots this year, compared to fewer than 10 percent last year.

At this time, incumbent Mayor Edna DeVries (Duh-VREES) has 33,001 votes. The write-in candidates trail with 2,068 votes.

District 7 Assembly incumbent Ron Bernier is currently leading by more than 600 votes to Sheena Fort. But not all District 7 precincts have completed their reporting.

Incumbent State Representative Kevin McCabe received 54 percent of the votes compared to challenger Doyle Holmes’ 44 percent. All 12 precincts have reported in this race.

One ballot question regarding the merging of Caswell and Willow fire service areas appears to have passed in both areas.

Absentee ballots may still be outstanding. They must have been postmarked on Election Day, but can arrive up to three days after the election to be counted.

All election results are currently unofficial. We will report updates as they become available through the Mat-Su Borough and Alaska Division of Elections.
