Amidst education budget concerns across the district, Trapper Creek Elementary School Principal Allison Wall said Trapper Creek isn’t facing cuts to staff or faculty, but there is one big change–she’s retiring at the end of the school year. For the 2025-2026 school year, Trapper Creek Elementary won’t have a Teaching Principal, but will have a new full-time teacher on staff.
As part of this change, Talkeetna Elementary School Principal Drew Larrabee will handle the administrative duties for both Trapper Creek Elementary and Talkeetna Elementary.
Larrabee said this restructuring could be a good thing. He stated that a teaching principal position means splitting time between administrative and teaching responsibilities. With a full-time teaching position, the focus can stay on the classroom.
Next year, Talkeetna Elementary School teacher Charity Moore will step in to teach Kindergarten through second grade for Trapper Creek. Larrabee added that Charity Moore teaching in Trapper Creek does not mean Talkeetna Elementary School will lose a teacher. He said the school will hire another full-time teacher in Talkeetna.
While the specific schedule of what days Larrabee would spend at each elementary school has yet to be determined, Larrabee said he’s confident this will be a smooth transition.
