Mat-Su Borough begins FY2026 budget deliberations

Deliberations on the Mat-Su Borough’s budget for the 2026 Fiscal Year began this past Thursday. In the special meeting, the assembly addressed four possible amendments to the proposed budget.

Two of the four proposed amendments sought to lower the mill rate, as the current proposed budget increases the average property tax bill by over one hundred dollars from last year. Assemblymember Hale proposed one amendment that he said could cut around twenty dollars off the average property tax bill.

Multiple assembly members said they plan on proposing more amendments before the next budget deliberation meeting on May 7th.

The borough has scheduled three budget deliberation meetings, but Borough Manager Mike Brown said the assembly typically approves the budget at the second meeting.
