Residents in the Oilwell Road area of Trapper Creek will have their first meeting to discuss the potential of creating a new community council. The Trapper Creek Community Council had made efforts to expand their boundaries to include the Oilwell residents. However, the group voiced concerns about becoming part of the Trapper Creek council area.
Oilwell resident Donna Massay says the group intends to be sensitive and inclusive to all landowners who have property on or access from the road. She says the group has created the Greater Oilwell Road Area Facebook page for those landowners.
Mat-Su Borough Planner Bianca Zibrat says the group has reached out to the Planning Department to begin the process. The first steps include contact with the landowners, drafting the proposed boundaries, and setting a first meeting.
Boundaries for the new proposed council stretch to the Kahiltna River to the west and the southern boundary of the Trapper Creek Community Council to the north. The eastern and southern boundaries are section lines.
Massay says the first meeting will be at the parking area just past Amber Lake on Oilwell Road on May 29 at 11am. She says landowners unable to make it to that meeting can submit comments on the Facebook page or to the group’s email at greateroilwellrdcc@yahoo.com.
