At about 10:30 Monday night, a northbound freight train struck and killed Brian Neudecker of Talkeetna, according to the Alaska State Trooper Dispatch. Neudecker was operating an ATV on the tracks close to Mile 92 of the Parks Highway.
Alaska Railroad’s Director of External Affairs Meghan Clemens says the incident occurred on the Railroad’s main line just south of Montana Creek. Neudecker was traveling with a group of one other adult and several children in a second ATV. Clemens says Neudecker was high-centered on one of the tracks and was unable to get the ATV free. The other adult and all the children were able to escape.
Clemens reminds residents that the train tracks and a 100-foot right-of-way on either side of the tracks are not open to the public.
The Alaska Railroad Police is the primary investigating agency and Clemens says that investigation is ongoing. There are no operational impacts and trains are running as normal.
