Over the last few weeks, Trapper Creek residents were able to vote on which projects they want to receive funding through the Borough’s Community Assistance Program. These funds are provided to many of the Community Councils to distribute to local organizations providing programs and services benefitting residents.
Six organizations requested CAP funds from the Trapper Creek Community Council. The Council offers a ranked choice voting system where the organization with the most votes as being the public’s top priority receives full funding. The remaining funds are divided among the other organizations.
Twenty thousand dollars will go to the Trapper Creek Community Services Association for park and cemetery maintenance. TCCSA Board Chair Amanda Garland says the funds will nearly cover two years of operations and maintenance. She says the Trapper Creek Park is not Borough-maintained and does not receive funding to cover those costs. The group relies on donations, grants, and fundraisers to support the Park’s operations and volunteers to complete much of that work. The Park and Cemetery support the community with outdoor and indoor event space, ski trails, the Free Box, and more.
The Upper Susitna Food Pantry, Trapper Creek Library, Healthy Snack program at Trapper Creek Elementary, Denali Arts Council programming for students, and the local firefighters will also receive funds this year.
