Residents Remain Stranded in Petersville Area

Heavy rainfall last week and over the weekend in the Petersville and Trapper Creek areas has washed out Petersville Road in at least 10 sections and left more than 30 people stranded.

Department of Transportation and Public Facilities Administrative Operations Manager Justin Shelby says contractors are on the way to the area today and will be developing a plan. He says the DOT is coordinating with the Mat-Su Borough and the Department of Natural Resources to determine how repairs can be made.

Rain continues to fall and with no signs of stopping, is complicating the efforts. Shelby says he is unsure when the crews will mobilize to do the work.

Petersville Search and Rescue Strategic Commander Michele Stevens says the stranded residents appear to be safe and well-equipped for now.

This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as they become available.
