Planning Commission Recommends CIP Projects to Move Forward

The Mat-Su Borough Planning Commission approved a resolution that ranked capital projects nominated by the public. Capital improvement projects cost a minimum of $20,000, would be in place for at least five years, and must benefit the community.

A committee made up of many Borough department representatives rank each project and develop a list that is shared with the Planning Commission and the Assembly. The Commission made no suggested changes to the proposed project ranking.

At the top of the list this year is the Talkeetna Village Park Restroom Accessibility project. This project will provide better access for those with mobility challenges. Currently, the path to the restrooms is gravel, making it difficult to traverse with a wheelchair, stroller, or other mobility aids.

The estimated cost for the project is $40,000 and if approved would be built over the next few years. The project list will now move forward to the Assembly for discussion and approval for the next fiscal year’s budget.
