Skatepark Event Brings Community Together

A fundraising event over the weekend brought the community together for a shared love of skating.

The Krew Fewd, held at the Sheldon Commununity Arts Hangar, featured a gameshow-style event that brought in about $1,500 for the future Talkeetna Skatepark. Butchy Fuego, one of the event organizers, says it was about more than raising funds. He says there seems to be a lot of momentum and that this was also a way to get people excited about the park.

Fuego says that to date, the Skatepark Committee has raised about $18,000. According to Committee Chair Caitlin Palmer, the first of four construction phases is expected to cost about $414,000. Grants and other sources will likely make up most of the funding for the park.

The next Skatepark Committee meeting is at the Talkeetna Public Library on March 11 at 6pm. The public is welcome to attend.
