Alaska delegation deluged with calls for tickets

Both Lisa Murkowski and Don Young’s offices have been overwhelmed with calls for tickets to the inauguration of President-elect Obama in January.

Most of the 240,000 tickets to the official ceremony are distributed through Congressional offices. Alaska’s delegation has only a total of 928 tickets to give out.

The offices of both Don Young and Lisa Murkowski have fielded about 2,500 requests each. Murkowski says the excitement is overwhelming and impressive. Young’s office says they’ve gotten calls from people who aren’t Alaskans but figure Alaska is too far away and their office will have extra tickets.

Murkowski says they’ll distribute the 928 tickets in the fairest way possible among the thousands of people requesting them. Anyone attending the ceremony will go through extensive screening. Murkowski says if people do not have reservations and do not have a hotel by now, they should know everything in the District is booked and all flights are booked.

The delegation does not handle tickets to the parade or the inaugural ball.
