The Montana Creek Dog Mushers Association has postponed their Willow Championships for one week. The recent warm weather hampered trail conditions to the point that the trail is not ready for races scheduled to be held this weekend.
Trail groomers worked this week, after temperatures cooled, but according to their website information, conditions are now too icy.
The race sign-up is rescheduled for next Friday night, January 30th, at the Pioneer Lodge in Willow. Races begin at milepost 94.2 of the George Parks Highway next to the Shooting Range. There is a $7 thousand purse this year, split among winning teams. All participants must be association members to compete.
The Don Bowers Memorial Sled Dog Race is planned for next weekend too, starting in Willow. The 200 and 300 mile race attracts mushers from around the state. Thirty-six mushers are signed up for this Iditarod and Yukon Quest qualifier race.
