An ordinance calling for a special election for Borough Mayor on June 2 will be introduced at a special Borough meeting on March 10th. The meeting will be held at 3 pm at Borough Assembly Chambers in Palmer. A public hearing on the matter will be held at the regular Assembly meeting on March 17th.
Deputy Mayor Lynne Woods is currently performing mayoral duties at the Mat Su Borough. She has taken over the duties of Mayor Menard who passed away on Tuesday morning.
If the day the vacancy occurred is more than six months from a regular election, state statute requires a special election to be held to fill the seat.
