Man dies on tour bus in Denali Park

A 59 year old New Mexico man died of apparent natural causes on a Denali Natural History Tour bus near the Savage River Campground on Thursday.

The National Park Service received a report early Thursday morning that a park visitor was suffering an unknown medical problem on a tour bus stopped at the campground, near milepost 13 of the Denali Park road.

Upon arrival at the scene, rangers found the man in full cardiac arrest with several medically trained bystanders and concession employees administering care.  Medics performed advanced cardiac life support measures in an attempt to restore a pulse, but were unsuccessful.

The man’s wife was accompanying him.  His remains were released to the State Medical Examiner.

According to park records, this is the third death near the Park entrance this year. A concession employee was found dead in his room earlier this season and a man died of cardiac arrest at the Park Train Depot in May.
