Palmer radio one step closer to on air

Radio Free Palmer is making its move to become Palmer’s first community radio station. They have applied to DNR for a land use permit application for a transmitter site off Eska Road near Sutton.

Jim Sykes, who was instrumental in KTNA’s inception, is one of those leading the charge to get Radio Free Palmer on the air as a full-fledged community radio station. Currently it is a web-based station that podcasts Mat Su Borough Assembly meetings live over the internet.

The DNR permit would allow for a 6 by 8-foot shed AND a 20-foot-long steel pole to be attached to a 40 foot tree. A ten-foot high fence would encompass the area.

The permit would be valid through December of 2014 and be issued this December. The application is currently in the public comment phase.
