A plan that seeks to make wetlands management part of the Borough’s Comprehensive plan is open for public comment through the end of the week.
The Borough Department of Planning released the draft Mat Su Borough Wetlands Management plan in October. According to the document, the plan seeks to coordinate existing information about area wetlands between agencies, promote stewardship to prevent wetland damage and loss, and educate people on the value of wetlands to their communities.
Around a quarter of land in the borough classified as wetland, and the plan seeks to balance the benefits to lifestyle, environmental and economic benefits of healthy wetlands with the rapidly expanding infrastructure of Alaska’s Fastest-growing borough.
A copy of the document can be found on the Borough’s Planning website, and the comment deadline is Friday, November 18th.
