Library second on the list for funding

Residents advocating for a new library received good news this week when the Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development released grant application rankings for Library Construction projects. The proposed Talkeetna Public Library and Community Resource Center was ranked in second place to receive funds through the State’s Library Construction and Major Expansion Matching Grant program. The State Legislature will review the grants before they are included in the Capital Budget, and Librarian Ann Yadon says the second-place ranking puts the project in good position to receive funding.

Projected costs for the new building total 5.6 million dollars, of which the state would cover 2.8 million dollars.

The friends of the Talkeetna Library have committed to raising fifty-thousand dollars for the project, which includes fundraising efforts such as the book fair that runs through December 6th.
