Su Valley has claimed another championship when the Girls Varsity team won the Crowley Classic Basketball Tournament this weekend. The Lady Rams closed out the season with a win over Tok, making them the champions for a second year in a row.
Coach Jimmy Sickler says the team’s defensive game was able to stop Tok’s offense, which included the likes of last year’s Conference Player-of-the-Year, Desiree Demitt.
Meanwhile, the SU valley Varsity Boys fell to last year’s state One-A champion team from Aniak by 4 points in the second round of play on Friday night. The Aniak Half-Breeds edged out a win over the Su Valley Rams by a score of 66 to 62 during a nail-biting game on Friday night.
Su Valley Coach Mike Mathews was gracious in defeat, saying that his team was able use a tight, controlled style of play to rally a late-game surge against the fast-and-loose team from Aniak.
Aniak then went on to win the Championship game over Lumen Christi on Saturday, and Su Valley won the consolation game against Nenana.
