The Mat-Su Borough’s candidate filing period for this year’s election is now open. The filing period runs from July 16th to July 27th. Northern Valley residents will be voting for borough mayor and District 7’s assembly seat.
Randall Kowalke, who currently holds the District 7 seat, is running for state senate, meaning the northern section of the borough will likely have a new representative after the election.
While the borough’s filing period has just opened, candidates were already able to file with the Alaska Public Offices Commission. Thus far, two candidates have filed from the northern Valley. Vern Halter has filed with the state to retain his seat as borough mayor, and Tamara Boeve of Willow has filed to run for the borough assembly. There are no fundraising reports posted on the state website for either candidate.
This year’s borough election will be held on October 2nd.
