With Spring in full swing in the Northern Susitna Valley, a number of organizations and committees are planning meetings in the coming weeks, including one that will be meeting for the first time.

This Wednesday at 1:00, the Talkeetna Sewer and Water Advisory Board is meeting at the Talkeetna Public Library.  It was announced at Monday night’s community council meeting that the board has a vacancy and is seeking a new member.  Only those who own property within the sewer and water district are eligible to join the board.

On Thursday at 6:30 pm, the Community Watch committee will meet at the Talkeetna library.  With funding from the Mat-Su Borough, the committee has purchased sixty household neighborhood watch starter kits.  The application period for the kits has closed, and a total of fifty-eight applications came in. Thursday’s meeting will include distribution of the kits to those whose applications are approved.

A new organization will be meeting for the first time later this month.  After completing training in March, about ten local residents have formed a Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT, for the Northern Susitna Valley. CERT teams are supported by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Mat-Su Borough, and are trained to help first responders in the event of an emergency. Their first meeting will be held at 6:30 pm on April 10th at the Talkeetna Public Library.
