Mat-Su Borough School District restricts some extracurriculars; confirms positive SARS-CoV-2 test at Su Valley

A number of Mat-Su Borough Schools have been designated at a “yellow” COVID status, including Willow Elementary and Su Valley Junior-Senior High School, prompting the School District to suspend intra-school, indoor sporting events.

Yellow status is defined by the School District as a low to moderate level of community transmission. Talkeetna Elementary School and Trapper Creek Elementary School remain at the green level, which is defined as either a low level or no reported COVID cases.

An email was sent from the school district to parents on Sunday, informing them that the Mat-Su Borough has recently been designated a “High Risk” area.  The email went on to say that all indoor, intra-district competitions would be cancelled through October 31st and would not be rescheduled.

A second email on Sunday reported a positive test for the virus that causes COVID-19 at Su Valley.  The school was scheduled to open as normal on Monday, except for students identified as close contacts to the person who tested positive.

Indoor seasons that extend beyond October 31st are being re-evaluated.  Intra-school outdoor competitions are being allowed to finish their seasons with current COVID mitigations in place.
